Kasba Dweep Welfare Society is a secular, impartial, and apolitical not-for-profit organization registered under the Societies Registration Act of 1961. We were set up in April 2012, located in Kasba area of Kolkata. We work as a catalyst in bringing change in the lives of thousands of underprivileged and marginalized children, youth, women, and elderly by addressing their basic needs. We try to enable the civil society across the nation to engage proactively in the change process through the ideology of civic driven changes. Adopt highest standards of governance to emerge as a leading knowledge and technology driven, innovative, and scalable national development organization.
Education for underprivileged children
Placing children, their family, and community at the center stage of our initiatives, we began our journey in 2012. Education of underprivileged children was the core area of focus as it is the key to addressing human development issues like poverty, unemployment, healthcare, population control, human rights, etc.
A child getting educated needed to be physically healthy. Studies have shown linkages between health and education.
The health of a child is dependent on the health of his/her family, particularly the mother. Thus, we are working on a healthcare program to provide preventive and affordable curative healthcare services to people in remote areas and urban slums.
India has consistently fared poorly on the Gender Inequality Index of the Global Human Development Report. Its poor performance on women’s empowerment and gender equality further reflected in indicators of education, health, and employment. By addressing this pressing issue, we can enable them to lead a life of dignity through realization of self-esteem and inner potential.
KDWS believes that whether you are addressing healthcare, poverty, population control, unemployment or human rights, there's no better place to start than in the corridors of Education.
Because education is both the means as well as the end to a better life: means, because it empowers an individual to earn his/her livelihood and the end because it increases one's awareness on a range of issues – from healthcare to appropriate social behavior to understanding one's rights - and in the process evolve as a better citizen.
KDWS works with under-privileged children under difficult circumstances such as child labour, children of poorest of the parents, children inflicted and affected with HIV/AIDS, street and runaway children, children with rare disability [Autism, Deaf & Dumb, Blindness, etc.], disaster struck children, and slum children etc. Education for underprivileged Children is the key whether we are addressing healthcare, poverty, population control, unemployment or human rights issues.

Women Health Camps/Medical Awareness Programs
Even after decades of freedom, India is still struggling to provide basic healthcare services to its people. According to government sources, in India 45 children die every hour due to respiratory infections, 1 child dies every 2 minutes due to diarrhea, and annually, about 2 million children under 5 years of age die due to preventable diseases. The situation calls for timely care and diagnosis which can reduce the incidence of mortality and morbidity especially among children and women.
K.D.W.S. is in the process of initiating a program to provide basic healthcare services to meet the immediate healthcare needs of the marginalized community in remote rural areas and slums in the city through health camps offering comprehensive health services – curative, preventive, promotive and referral to people in selected intervention areas. In order to achieve the goals, we need the continued help and support that we have received till now and hope to continue to do so in the future.
Women’s right and Welfare Programs
Across the world, continued violence threatens the future of millions of women and their communities. The international community has recognized the valuable contribution women make to conflict prevention and sustainable peace building. However, women and gender considerations are still largely absent from the structures. KDWS advocates for the equal and full participation of women in all efforts to create and maintain peace and security. Our Mission is to work actively for the progress and welfare of women and children. Help women utilize to the fullest the Fundamental Rights conferred on them by the Constitution of India, to work for a society where women are free from all types of violence, especially domestic violence and sexual harassment of all kinds, and to empower women through various programs and prepare them for taking up leadership roles in the society.
